June is full of fun holidays including National Doughnut Day (June 2), National Chocolate Ice Cream Day (June 7th), and Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month. Use these holidays as an excuse to get together with friends and enjoy some great food and treats.   National Doughnut Day (June 2nd) There’s nothing better than a fresh doughnut, so take advantage of this day! We recommend trying out Helen’s Donuts & Ice Cream . It’s a little bit of a drive, but well worth your time. One local said :   “Great service, very fast and efficient. And best of all, great donuts! They even threw in donut holes. This place is an awesome local staple.” - Tofunmi O.   Locals rave about this place! Stop in this week and try it out for yourself.   Chocolate Ice Cream Day (June 7th) Treat yourself on June 7th by visiting a local ice cream shop and indulging in a delicious ice cream scoop (or scoops!). Try out Ice Cream Social in Tacoma. They have classic and unique flavors. One reviewer said :   “...This place has [ the ] best ice cream. It's addicting. I recommend trying the salted caramel and the lavender ice creams. Once you have their ice cream, it's hard to enjoy manufactured store bought ice cream. All of their ice cream is [ handmade ] in [ downtown ] Tacoma by the owner and her staff...” - Mel Dray   Maybe it’s a good day to try out making your own homemade ice cream! Try out this recipe: Triple Chocolate Rocky Road Ice Cream from Carlsbad Cravings. It doesn’t even require an ice cream maker!   Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month This is the perfect month for fresh fruit and vegetables. Check out the Fife Farmers Market here in Fife, WA this month to find fresh produce. Their opening day is June 16th. Invite friends and enjoy the live music and the variety of vendors. Bathroom Design Ideas-image

Your home decor makes one of the biggest first impressions upon your guests. Cleanliness is also important, while design sends a message to guests about who you are. A shared bathroom is an important place to keep clean but unique as well. Your Port Landing at Fife bathroom is the perfect canvas to showcase your organization skills as well as style and aesthetic.   First, keep your bathroom clean and organized. As mentioned, guests can see this room, so you won’t want to scare them away. Keep some Windex or Clorox wipes on hand for quickly cleaning off counters and wiping out the sink. Don’t miss the top of the tank on the toilet and around the tub and shower area. Remove trash as necessary and always keep toilet paper stocked. Organize products by usage: keep your daily products in one area, travel products together, and medicinal or first-aid products together.   Next is the fun part. Decide on the aesthetic you want to have in your bathroom. Lots of bathroom accessories are versatile and classic. Glass soap containers, neutral shower curtains and white towels will give you a classic and sophisticated vibe in your bathroom. We love some fresh flowers on the bathroom counter to give a clean and modern vibe in the room. Counter space is valuable, so to mix it up, choose funky containers and boxes to store your products. Shower curtains and towels come in hundreds of different styles (and price ranges!) so you’ll certainly be able to find something you love.   Don’t worry about having a theme flow through every room in your apartment. Each room can be unique and showcase an aspect of your style. Your guests are sure to love a room as special as you! Thanks for reading the Port Landing at Fife blog. Try Strawberry Shortcake-image

Welcome back to Port Landing at Fife’s blog! Our last post was about how to keep you car clean and tidy. In our post today we’re sharing a sweet treat recipe. Your kitchen here at Port Landing at Fife has everything you’ll need to whip up something delicious. Cooking at home is a relaxing way to spend an evening at home. The best part of cooking is sharing it with friends. We’ve got a really easy dish today that we think would be great shared with loved ones for a movie night or get together. Invite your friends over for an evening in and they’ll love this dessert.   INGREDIENTS strawberries: 1 pint strawberries, hulled and sliced 1-2 tablespoons confectioner's sugar zest from one lemon shortcake: 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1 tablespoon sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup heavy cream whipped cream 1 cup heavy cream 1 tablespoon confectioner's sugar   INSTRUCTIONS   Combine strawberries, sugar, and lemon zest. Allow them to develop flavors in refrigerator for at least an hour, up to overnight. To make shortcake, preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt in a medium bowl. Add heavy cream and mix until just combined. Mixture will be very thick. Form two large rounds for four small rounds on an ungreased pan (I used a cooking stone) and bake until golden, 15 to 20 minutes. For added crunch and sweetness, you can sprinkle large decorator's sugar on top of the biscuits, if you have some available, prior to baking. Allow to cool once removed from oven. To make the whipped cream, combine the heavy cream and sugar and beat with whisk attachment on high speed until soft peaks form, about 4-7 minutes. To assemble shortcake, split biscuit in half. Layer with strawberries in the middle and on top and then top with whipped cream. Enjoy!   This dessert is perfect for the upcoming warm months. Whole Foods is our favorite place to purchase fresh fruit. Find a location near you right here . Thanks for reading Port Landing at Fife’s blog.

Vehicle Care Tips-image

Hey Readers! Welcome back to the Port Landing at Fife blog. This blog is a space where readers and residents can come for information and ideas regarding apartment living. We post things like recipes, travel ideas and local hotspots. In our last post, we shared some ideas for decorating your space. Today we’re sharing our tips for keeping you car clean and spotless. Doing so has multiple benefits. Take great care of your car and you’ll help your car keep it’s value even longer. Just like you take care of the way your car runs, it’s important to take care of how it looks. And this isn’t just about aesthetics, it can be a safety issue as well. Read on for some great tips that you can implement into your car care routine!   -Clean the outside. Getting your car washed is important to protect the paint and keeping your car looking nice. This also keeps windows and windshields clear — there are some spots that even the wipers won’t reach!   -Speaking of windows, grab some Windex wipes or a spray bottle and towel. Clean the inside windows, as well as your mirrors. Dust and other debris can build up on windows which can hinder your sight when driving   -Tote out the trash. Get a grocery bag and fill it with all trash in your car and dispose of things that you don’t need any more. Take clothes inside. Leave an empty bag in your car to collect other trash.   -Cut the grime. Use items like toothbrushes and cotton swabs, along with some warm soapy water to clean out cupholders and other areas where dirt can accumulate. Don’t forget to wipe down the steering wheel!   Be sure to use products that are safe for all surfaces in your car. If you’re unsure, a local auto accessory store or grocery store will have the items you need. Keeping your car clean will make it look and feel newer. Adding air fresheners is also a great touch to keep it smelling clean and fresh.

Decor and Design 101-image

Hi Readers! Welcome back to the Port Landing at Fife blog. In our post today we’ve got some fun ideas for decorating your Fife apartment. It can seem daunting to take on the task of perfectly coordinating your entire apartment but we’ve got some fun ideas to share.   Have only things in your home that you really love and that spark joy in your heart. Even things like a toaster or bath towel can be something you love. If you’re in a rush, choose affordable items that can be replaced without feeling like a waste of money. Investment pieces will go a long way and can last you a really long time. Choosing high quality items may not be part of your budget, but you can certainly take time to save and work toward those items.   As you’re decorating on a budget, you don’t have to choose things you don’t like. DIY projects are a great way to put your own spin on a craft. Most are pretty inexpensive to make, so you won’t have to spend a ton of money. Be creative with colors and prints you choose for your home projects so you can enjoy them.   We liked this idea for a blanket ladder that you can make yourself! A blanket ladder gives a rustic touch to any home. They serve a purpose and they are beautiful to look at. We found some instructions at Domestically Speaking.   A DIY Hexagon Shelf has a little bit of a boho vibe, and we think it would go perfect on a bathroom or bedroom wall. The author of this idea suggests placing a small plant inside. Find the instructions here on Her Campus.   Check back next time for another great blog post about apartment living tips and tricks. Spring Cleaning Tips-image

Welcome back to Port Landing at Fife’s blog. This is a space where we love to share with our readers all the tips and tricks to make apartment living fun and easy. April is here, which means spring! And spring means Spring Cleaning. It might hang like a cloud over your head but we’re here to help it feel like a breeze.   We like starting our spring cleaning with a little technique called the “walk through.” Simply walk through different rooms of your home, with a box or bag in hand for any garbage. As you walk through and collect trash, you’ll get a really good read on each room and what shape they’re in. At the same time, you’re picking up trash so it is, in turn, getting cleaner. Take note of burned out light bulbs, windows that need to be cleaned, beds to be made etc.   After doing the walk through start to tackle those tasks you noted previously. You’ve already visited every room and you know just what to expect so you can plan out your attack. As you revisit the rooms, do it task by task. Get glass cleaner and a rag and clean windows of all rooms that need it. If floors need to be swept, do every floor at once. This way you are getting tasks done in each room and you can tackle the whole house more easily. You will also avoid having to get cleaning products out time after time.   For recurring tasks like laundry and dishes, make a schedule that works with your lifestyle. For some, nights are a great time to tackle these chores. For others, weekends are the best time to work them in. Other tasks don’t need to be done as often but should be incorporated into your cleaning routine as well.   The walk through is a great way to kick off your spring cleaning because you get a glimpse at every room of your Port Landing at Fife home. Thanks for reading!
